Clan Diversity Diversity is life... Life is Knowledge
Race Guide

There are 12 different races that we, the actual players (PCs), can choose from. Each race has strengths and weaknesses. Some races tend to be favorites for different aspects of the game. For example, Dwarves tend to make good pkers (player killers) because they have resistance to magic, are able to be bards, and still have significantly above-average HP. Elves, on the other hand, tend to make better characters for killing mobs as Elves have high sanity (which is great for counterspell) and a lot of SP. Hopefully using this guide, you can choose the best race for your purposes.

Humans are your basic character: no special strengths but no weaknesses. The main advantage of being a human is that you can choose from all the available classes (except Shaman), and you dont have those nasty penalties that some of the races get like low HP or low SP.

Strength: 19Knowledge: 19Wisdom: 19
Agility: 19Vitality: 19Luck: 19
Courage: 19Sanity: 19Personality: 19

Editor's Class Suggestion: Humans can be anything they want to be, so the choice is yours. Play with it and have fun...enjoy the Diversity (pun intended).

Half-elves are good all-around characters who share some characteristics with both humans and elves. Like humans, they may choose from all the available classes except Shaman. They have slightly lower HP than humans, but more SP to make up for it. Additionally, half-elves' vital stats are comparable to that of their Human counterparts. In keeping with their elven ancestry, half-elves also get sense life as a racial affect.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life
Extras: Infravision without a Book

Strength: 19Knowledge: 19Wisdom: 19

Editor's Class Suggestion: Same deal as with Humans: you can choose any class combination you desire. See the Classes Page for more help.

Elves are not so keen in pk combat due to low strength and the worst HP of any race in the game. But what they lack in brute strength, they make up for in magic ability. Sanity is incredibly important in spell casting; it allows you to cast faster and succeed more often. Whereas a Human might have a hard time counterspelling a larger more powerful creature in the game, an Elf will succeed almost every time. Plus, although Elves can't be rogues, they naturally get the ability to throw which is great for flash bombs and smoke bombs.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life Detect-Alignment
Resistances: Charm
Extras: Throwing, Infravision
Hit Points: 1750Spell Power: 2500Stamina: 1750
Strength: 17Knowledge: 21Wisdom: 21
Agility: 21Vitality: 17Luck: 20
Courage: 18Sanity: 23Personality: 20

Elves can be the following classes:
Wizard    Ranger    Psionic    Monk
Valkyrie    Cavalier    Druid    Priest    Bard

Editor's Class Suggestion: You don't really need to go Psionic to max out your Sanity at 25 because when you go Archon you get +2 to all your stats. So my suggestion for this class would be to go something with Monk. Even though Monk spells in general use a lot more SP, the Elf class can usually handle it. I would select Valky/Cav, Bard, Druid, Monk.

Ogres Well, big and dumb--what more can you say about ogres? Don't rely on them for magic because the amount of SP they have will barely allow you to heal, not to mention the sanity is so low you'd have a hard time casting on anyone other than yourself. Class choices are limited but if you like to duke it out in brute strength then this is the character for you. In a formation these guys are well liked because hey, we found our shield! *Throws the ugly ogre to the monsters* The enormous amount of HP, strength and vitality make these guys among the strongest fighters around.

Resistances: Cold Fire
Weaknesses: Mental
Extras: Bash
Hit Points: 2500Spell Power: 1350Stamina: 2500
Strength: 24Knowledge: 17Wisdom: 17
Agility: 17Vitality: 24Luck: 17
Courage: 18Sanity: 17Personality: 17

Ogres can be the following classes:
Wizard    Ranger    Shaman    Rogue    Bard
Valkyrie    Barbarian    Witch

Editor's Class Suggestion: I am not sure if it's a bug, but Ogres can be Valky but not Cav. So if you are a female, I'd do Valky for that beautiful second defense. Other than that, your choices are pretty limited. My choice would be Valky/Bard/Shaman/Wizard (or Ranger depending on how much you like your tracking).

Dwarves are possibly the most popular choice of race among PKers. This is due to many factors. Their magic resistance makes it harder to cast spells on them, yet they have no racial weaknesses. They may choose from an almost complete set of classes, and they have relatively high stats with the exception of SP. They are slightly weaker than some of the other races when it comes to magic, but their natural magic resistance may be considered well worth the sacrifice.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life
Resistances: Magic Poison Disease
Hit Points: 2250Spell Power: 1600Stamina: 2250
Strength: 20Knowledge: 18Wisdom: 18
Agility: 18Vitality: 21Luck: 18
Courage: 22Sanity: 20Personality: 18

Dwarves can be the following classes:
Wizard    Monk    Psionic    Ranger    Priest    Shaman
Druid    Rogue    Bard    Paladin    Barbarian

Editor's Class Suggestion: Dwarves are quite versatile--you can do pretty much anything you want with them. Going psionic is nice to boost their spellcasting strength, but the possibilities are wide open.

Gnomes are the brothers to Dwarves and similar in almost every aspect except they cant be Bards or Barbarians. If you are going to make a Dwarf and not go Bard, you would be better off as a Gnome because their stats are better for spellcasting.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life
Resistances: Magic Poison Disease
Hit Points: 2150Spell Power: 1750Stamina: 2150
Strength: 18Knowledge: 20Wisdom: 18
Agility: 18Vitality: 18Luck: 20
Courage: 20Sanity: 22Personality: 18

Gnomes can be the following classes:
Wizard    Monk    Psionic    Ranger    Shaman    Druid
Rogue    Paladin    Valkyrie

Editor's Class Suggestion: Gnomes are not as popular as their hairy cousins, but some might suggest they are equally powerful. Since sanity is not as much of an issue (as an archon they will have 24), you won't need to be a Psionic; this leaves you open to being a Wizard and getting the weaken spell by those means--although you could go Monk and Druid to change things up. The two best cleric/mage choices might be Shaman/Wizard or Monk/Druid.

Halflings So much punch for a half pint! Halflings might not have the HP or the SP, but that is all made up for in their natural racial affects. This is the only race which can take full advantage of fast healing and meditation because they have haste naturally. Best of all they have a wide array of classes to choose from, which leaves room for a lot of customization.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life Haste
Resistances: Magic
Hit Points: 1750Spell Power: 1850Stamina: 2150
Strength: 17Knowledge: 19Wisdom: 20
Agility: 23Vitality: 20Luck: 17
Courage: 23Sanity: 20Personality: 22

Halflings can be the following classes:
Wizard    Monk    Psionic    Ranger    Druid
Priest    Rogue    Bard    Cavalier    Paladin    Barbarian

Editor's Class Suggestion: I am quite partial to Halflings; I often envisioned what the perfect halfling would be. Because of the low strength I would suggest Barbarian so you get the ability to use an axe which does a lot of damage for a one handed weapon. I also think Bards are better than Rogues, so you'll need to hold an instrument in your other hand. Having to hold an instrument means no spellbook which is no problem if you are a Druid. Finally, because you are a Druid you need cure blind which you can get from being a Monk. So, those are my picks: Barbarian/Bard/Druid/Monk. Of course that's not the only route you can go. There are many other combinations you can try. For example, you might want to consider going Psionic to get the edge on your sanity.

Minotaurs are about as big as an Ogre without the ridiculously low SP. Again, possibly one of the better PK races in the game, especially if you are an archon; with 25 strength and the dreaded Seashell Axe, a Minotaur Archon can do 378 damage without having to sacrifice the ability to bash...mmMMmmMMmm! Plus, minotaurs have a tail which means if they get hit there the damage is minimal, and they can wear cool tail equipment to boost stats.

Resistances: Bash Poison Disease
Weaknesses: Fire
Extras: Bash without Shield, Tail
Hit Points: 2350Spell Power: 1750Stamina: 2250
Strength: 23Knowledge: 20Wisdom: 17
Agility: 20Vitality: 21Luck: 18
Courage: 18Sanity: 18Personality: 17

Minotaurs can be the following classes:
Wizard    Ranger    Psionic    Rogue    Shaman
Cavalier    Barbarian

Editor's Class Suggestion: Cavalier or Barbarian: good question. If you go Cav, you'll get the lance skill with Riding and as an Archon you'll have 25 max vitality. If you go Barbarian, you get 25 strength and the Axe skill. I pick Cavalier, but if you are a female you have no choice. The only other real question is Psionic or Wizard, and the debate continues on that one; perhaps we will have a verdict by the time version 5.0 comes out. However, this is the Editor's choice, so even though the Sanity is low, I will go with Wizard. An additional 2 Sanity isn't going to help a lot when all you have is 18 to begin with. I like the Wizard class's weaken and dispel magic spells along with all the common transportation spells.

Drow The Drow is the evil cousin of the Elf; they have many similar stats but also some interesting strengths. The Drows' SP is slightly less and the HP considerably greater than their more angelic cousins. On the downside, they are more limited in choice of classes. If you want a hardier Elven character with strong magical ability, this is your best bet.

Racial Affects: Sense-Life Detect-Hidden (same thing?)
Resistances: Charm Necromantic
Weaknesses: Holy
Hit Points: 2000Spell Power: 2350Stamina: 1850
Strength: 18Knowledge: 20Wisdom: 20
Agility: 20Vitality: 18Luck: 18
Courage: 20Sanity: 23Personality: 16

Drow can be the following classes:
Wizard    Ranger    Psionic    Monk    Rogue
Priest    Barbarian    Cavalier    Valkyrie    Witch

Editor's Class Suggestion: Drow get great stats as an Archon, so going Psionic for the plus on sanity isn't an issue because they will get 25 with the +2 bonus for going Archon. Going Barbarian for extra strength is always good, but Valky second defense is probably better. In the end, I think Valky/Rogue/Priest/Wizard is the best for this race.

Dracon These half-dragon characters are very unique. They get natural levitation and the ability to breathe fire, acid, and frost. There just doesn't seem to be a drawback except... the vital stats are somewhat lower than other races. However, it seems to balance out. Plus Dracons have both wings and a tail which take less damage in combat than say, the head.

Racial Affects: Levitation
Resistances: Bash Fire
Vulnerabilities: Cold
Extras: Wings, Tail, Breathing
Hit Points: 2250Spell Power: 1800Stamina: 2000
Strength: 20Knowledge: 18Wisdom: 18
Agility: 19Vitality: 20Luck: 17
Courage: 18Sanity: 17Personality: 16

Dracons can be the following classes:
Wizard    Psionic    Shaman    Rogue    Barbarian
Witch

Editor's Class Suggestion: Not much choice here, but if you have been paying attention I tend to favor Wizards over Psionics. Of course, it's up to you.

Fey have superior HP and SP, but the vital stats are very low. Still, it makes for a pretty strong pking race because they get resistance to Paralysis (which is included in Web). Also, they are immune to poison, have wings, and are able to shape-shift as a racial ability. Although it wouldn't be my first choice for PKing, fey are quite powerful.

Immunities: Poison
Resistances: Disease Charm Paralysis
Vulnerabilities: Iron Light Water Drowning
Extras: Shape Shifting, Faerie Fire, Magical Fade
Hit Points: 2250Spell Power: 2250Stamina: 2250
Strength: 18Knowledge: 18Wisdom: 17
Agility: 19Vitality: 20Luck: 18
Courage: 18Sanity: 17Personality: 17

Fey can be the following classes:
Wizard    Psionic    Rogue    Shaman    Barbarian
Witch    Valkyrie

Editor's Class Suggestion: I am not a big fan of the Fey race, but free shifting and all of the nice little bonuses they get make them fun. Their stats are their weakest point, so for me I'd choose Barbarian for the strength. I'd also pick Psionic because Fey have good SP but not the sanity to back it up.

Sidhe are said to be the strongest of the PK bunch. I don't know about the strongest, but they are up there. They have the shape-shifting, the resistance to paralysis, the magical fade--all that the Fey have but Sidhe have a wider selection of classes and higher vital stats than Fey.

Immunities: Poison
Resistances: Charm Disease Paralysis
Weaknesses: Light Iron
Extras: Glamour, Shape Shifting, Faerie Fire, Magical Fade
Hit Points: 1850Spell Power: 2150Stamina: 1900
Strength: 19Knowledge: 21Wisdom: 22
Agility: 19Vitality: 19Luck: 20
Courage: 18Sanity: 20Personality: 22

Sidhes can be the following classes:
Wizard    Ranger    Monk    Bard    Priest    Druid
Cavalier    Valkyrie    Paladin

Editor's Class Suggestion: There are endless possibilities with the Sidhe but my choice would be this: Valky/Bard/Druid/Monk. Imagine 3 defenses per round, spell shield, weaken, a faster casting speed for web, fewer books, all kinds of beneficial spells, and powerful PK spells. Nice...
